”My Rare Life is Worthy”
The above piece became a self portrait through the lens of synesthesia - not literal, but an “inner eye” representation of me in the midst of my healing journey.
As I reflect on the meaning of this image, I’m immediately struck by the level of detail. I’ve painted many self portraits since the life changing TBI in 2011, from abstract pouring medium to digital watercolor of my face; however, this drawing is a huge 8k digital file with the most intricate details I’ve ever applied to myself.
With time, I noticed that the curls represent abundance of faith in the form of feminine orbs I have always painted atop women sentinels, warriors, angels - it’s a symbol connection to the Divine.
The detailed lines are muscles being reattached and strengthened throughout my core, as I battle a sudden and significant flare of neuromuscular weakness associated with the ultra rare diagnosis of LEMS. Today I begin IVIG again to restore strength and mobility. It’s not easy, but I’m willing.
As always, I didn’t know what I was creating when drawing this image; I simply allowed my hands to follow the nudges. Eventually I realized that SHE is ME. It took me another week to notice what SHE/ME had to SAY.

Using art in this way continues to offer healing insight into myself, and I’m beginning to offer this more and more to others. Through the lens of synesthesia I have been enjoying the energetic process of SEEING people and pets/animals emerge in the form of art.
Most of this healing synesthesia art to date has simply been a gift to those I love. However, I’m a artist/minister with a daughter and a rare disease - Earning a living is important.
Therefore I’m increasingly willing to accept customer commissions - on a sliding scale so those in need are never excluded - for portraiture through the the inner eye of acquired savantism with synesthesia … send me a PM if interested.
